Cooksbridge in Lewes

Cooksbridge is a small village situated on the A275 between Lewes and Chailey . The Lewes-London Railway line runs through the village (Just 1 minute walk from the studio).
The south downs can be seen from anywhere in the village and provides a nice backdrop to the surroundings.
It is believed that the village got its name from the cooks who fed the soldiers of Simon de Mont fort from the bridge on their way to the Battle of Lewes in 1264. The troops came from nearby Fletching where they spent the night in prayer on their way to the defeat of Henry III.
Just 5 minutes from Cooksbridge lies the beautiful country town of Lewes which nestles into the South Downs not far from its much larger and busier neighbour Brighton. Lewes is packed with history, charm, character and mixture of unusual and intriguing landscapes and architecture.
From contemporary art galleries and cutting edge boutiques to antique centres, historic and special interest sites , there are always events and exhibitions happening in Lewes with plenty of pubs and restaurants to visit if you are coming to stay.
How to get to Cooksbridge by car or train
Brighton and Lewes have a fast and frequent rail link to Gatwick Airport and London. Direct rail services to Wales, Scotland and most of the southern coastal towns are also available.
Cooksbridge station is literally 1 minute walk from the studio and is a direct train journey from London Victoria (Aprox 1 Hour). Lewes station is a direct train journey from London Victoria (1 Hour), Gatwick Airport (1 1/2 Hour) and most of the south east coastal towns.

If you are coming by car from London take the A23 south towards Brighton, then the A27 East to Lewes. At the Lewes junction by the Lewes Prison turn left and carry on straight ahead until you reach Cooksbridge. The studio is just after the Cooksbridge sign on your left hand side.
